BACKGROUND

Muneeb took the cross-qualification route to becoming a Barrister, having previously practised as a Solicitor-Advocate in Criminal Advocacy. He practised as a Solicitor from 2011 to 2017, having undertaken a traditional solicitors’ training contract. Prior to his training contract, Muneeb had worked as a Paralegal. Muneeb had worked in the legal field for approximately 10 years in total, prior to his transfer to the Bar.

 

Areas of practice

  • Crime: As a former Solicitor-Advocate in Criminal Advocacy, Muneeb has a particular expertise in criminal prosecution work. Muneeb worked for the Crown Prosecution Service in London as a Crown Prosecutor for 2 years. He undertook trials in the Magistrates’ Court and Youth Court, covering a wide range of criminal offences. Muneeb also undertook advocacy in remand courts, dealing with bail applications, sending provisions in either way cases and sentencing. Muneeb briefly assisted the Crown Court Unit Trial Preparation Team in London. He would conduct Crown Court cases and provide charging advice to the Metropolitan Police.

 

  • Immigration: Muneeb worked within the Treasury Solicitor's Litigation Department (now the GLD) in London for 1 year. He defended Home Office decisions, primarily arising out of judicial review, immigration litigation, drafting summary grounds of defence and defences in appropriate cases.

 

  • Personal Injury: Muneeb has previously conducted both claimant and defendant personal injury work. He has experience of drafting particulars of claim or defences in litigated cases. Muneeb has worked for DAC Beachcroft and Keoghs Solicitors, conducting counter-fraud defendant work. He also conducted defendant credit hire work for Plexus Law. Muneeb is able to attend case management conferences, contested application hearings, infant approval settlements and fast-track trials.

 

  • Clinical Negligence: Muneeb trained as a Solicitor with Capsticks Solicitors and has conducted work for the NHS Litigation Authority in London, in the defence of clinical negligence claims on behalf of NHS Trusts. Muneeb also worked for Berrymans Lace Mawer, defending claims on behalf of the Medical Protection Society.  Muneeb is able to chair conferences, attend negotiations and advise on liability, quantum, and expert evidence.  

 

  • Inquests: Muneeb has worked directly for two NHS Foundation Trusts, conducting Inquest work for these organisations. Muneeb is able to draft written, legal submissions in preparation for Inquests. He is also able to conduct advocacy before the Coroners’ Court, conducting witness handling duties and making oral legal submissions.

 

  • Healthcare Regulatory: Muneeb has conducted work for the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the General Dental Council and has worked for the General Medical Council in Manchester. He is able to advise on and construct cases at the investigation stage of the process, involving registrants’ fitness to practise. Muneeb is also able to appear before the respective tribunal and conduct advocacy either for the regulatory body or for the registrant, at both final hearings and interim orders hearings.
