Fees:
9. Whilst NWC will usually quote fees to our instructing solicitors/other authorised persons, by email or over the phone, such quotations should not be considered final/agreed until Counsel has viewed the full set of documents relating to a case.
10. Our fees are usually either charged as a fixed fee or at an hourly rate (and you will be notified of which when the fee is quoted).
11. Factors that may determine the level of a fee include:
- The level of preparation that is required;
- If a novel, or unusual area of law needs researching or arguing;
- The monetary value involved in the case;
- Whether significant travel would be required;
- Whether it would be necessary for the Barrister to stay away from home overnight;
- The seniority of the Barrister required;
- The type of work required such as paperwork or court attendance and whether the matter is in one of the higher courts;
- The duration of any listed hearing.
12. Fees may also increase should a hearing not conclude within the listed time and further a hearing day(s) is required.
13. Fees for public access work undertaken by NWC can be found here.
14. All fees quoted are exclusive of VAT (meaning that this will be charged in addition to the quoted fee) unless otherwise stated.
15. NWC will provide you with a quote as soon as possible. NWC always aim to set out quotes clearly, but if you receive your quote and there is something you do not understand, please contact us.
Timescales
16. Timescales for a case may vary on factors such as barristers' availability, the type and complexity of the case, the other side's approach and court waiting times.
